Inspiration Comes From Everywhere

I had an odd dream last night. All dreams are strange, I know, but this one was just really weird for me.

I was working somewhere in an office setting, and my co-workers didn’t like me. I’m not saying that I am an all loving and bubbly person, don’t get it twisted. I’m just saying that it was weird to dream something like this. They talked about me behind my back and didn’t know that I heard them. “She thinks she’s cute,” they say. “She thinks she knows everything,” they say. “I don’t want to work with her,” they said.

It felt as if they were picking on me every day. My self-esteem was in the basement, and I felt angry. Very Angry. One of my “co-workers” and I quote that because I never saw her before, began bullying me. I don’t bully, and I don’t get bullied while awake. I am the type of person who used to beat up bullies and protect victims so in my dream, in my mind, needed to beat her up. Looking back at my emotions, I must have been in my early twenties, or something like that, because fighting was never my first choice. It seems like a high school choice to me.

Anyway, she pushed me, and that gave me permission to kick her butt. My mom always stressed never throw the first punch no matter what. But she did say once they throw the first punch I am allowed to finish it. And I better finish it. So, with my neighborhood upbringing, I was ready to finish it. I grabbed her left arm and pulled her towards me with such a force only pure anger could muster. She leaned in off balance, so I kicked her left leg out from under her. You know how dreams change in the middle of whatever is going on right? Well, my heels turned into hard toed boots, so the kick was stronger and as solid as I could make it. She dropped to the floor like a bag of concrete. I quickly picked up my right foot and brought it down to her face, the whole time thinking about the things I heard her say about me and getting angrier by the seconds, but instead of landing square on her face as I planned it fell hard on the floor next to her face. I didn’t finish her, and that’s when I woke up.

Crazy right? I know. So, what am I going to do with that? I’m going to incorporate it into a fight scene in my Kathy Abbott sequel. She won’t be a co-worker, she’ll be her nemesis. I’ll make a note of every emotion I felt and write it into the scene to the best of my ability.

If you’re a writer or an author, where do you get your inspiration? As a dreamer what would you do with information from a dream like this?
